Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup whole milk Can be swapped with almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

For Frying

  • Oil for frying

For Dusting

  • Powdered sugar For dusting before serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well-combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). A thermometer will help ensure you're at the right temperature.
  • Using a spoon, drop small balls of batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown. This should take about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  • Once golden and crisp, remove the beignets from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  • While they're still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

To reheat leftovers, use an air fryer or oven to restore texture. Avoid refrigeration for best results.
