  • 1 packet taco seasoning Choose your favorite brand.
  • 1 cup salsa Mild or spicy, based on preference.
  • 6 small tortillas, cut into strips Any variety can be used.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend) Feel free to use dairy-free options.
  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed Optional ingredient for added fiber.

Toppings

  • sour cream For serving.
  • chopped green onions For garnish.
  • diced tomatoes Fresh tomatoes for topping.
  • jalapeños Optional spicy topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  • Mix in the taco seasoning and salsa, stirring until fully combined.

Layering and Baking

  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the tortilla strips at the bottom.
  • Top with half of the meat mixture and half of the shredded cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with the remaining cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serving

  • Serve hot, adorned with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use plant-based cheese alternatives and non-dairy sour cream. Add diced jalapeños for extra spice if desired.
