Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 450 g lean ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey
  • 30 g butter Used for cooking vegetables
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 230 g brown mushrooms, minced Or roughly chopped if preferred
  • 30 g ketchup
  • 15 g Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 g Kosher salt
  • 3 g ground black pepper
  • 8 g cornstarch
  • 240 ml beef broth
  • 225 g provolone cheese, chopped or shredded
  • 6 pieces brioche hamburger buns, buttered and toasted For serving

Instructions

Cooking

  • Heat a hot pan and brown the ground beef without moving it for one minute to lock in flavor.
  • Once seared, break up the beef and remove it from the pan.
  • In the same pan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the diced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Cook until they’re well browned.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the beef broth, cornstarch, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Whisk together until smooth.
  • Pour this savory sauce into the pan with the vegetables and simmer for about 3 to 5 minutes until it thickens.
  • Return the browned beef to the pan, stirring to combine.
  • Turn off the heat, then mix in the provolone cheese until it melts into a creamy sauce.
  • Butter and toast your brioche buns separately, then fill them generously with the beef mixture.
  • Serve immediately while it’s hot and gooey!

Notes

For optimal browning of the beef, do not rush the cooking process. Consider adding different toppings like caramelized onions or slaw for variety.
