Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 pieces salmon filets (6 oz. each)
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 4 tsp water
  • 2/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce can use low-sodium for a healthier option
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar can substitute with honey
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

Optional Garnishes

  • sesame seeds for garnish
  • red pepper flakes for garnish
  • chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
  • Combine this mixture with orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil in a saucepan.
  • Bring the sauce to a low simmer and cook for around 3-5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) while the sauce cools.

Cooking

  • Line a baking sheet with lightly oiled foil and place the salmon filets there. Baste generously with the sauce, saving half for later.
  • Bake for 14 minutes until the salmon is flaky and cooked through.
  • For that golden finish, baste the salmon again with the reserved sauce and broil for about a minute.

Serving

  • Serve your delectable salmon over a bed of steamed rice and top it off with optional sesame seeds, red pepper flakes, and chopped green onions.

Notes

To enhance flavor, marinate the salmon in the sauce for an hour before cooking. For variations, substitute orange juice with pineapple or mango juice; for a spicy kick, add sriracha or chili paste.
