Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened butter Use room temperature butter for better mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Ensure eggs are at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional. Can customize with nuts or dried fruits.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Optional.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until combined.
  • Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • If using, gently fold in nuts and chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the dish to cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar. Pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. To store, allow to cool completely and place in an airtight container for up to three days, or freeze for up to a month.
