  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced Be sure to slice thinly for maximum flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use tamari for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup honey Maple syrup can be used as a substitute for a different flavor.
  • Kosher salt to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • Green onions, thinly sliced for garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium to medium-high heat.
  • Slice the chicken breasts lengthwise into four thinner pieces.
  • Season the chicken with kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, then coat evenly with flour.

Cooking

  • Cook the floured chicken for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium-low heat and add the sliced garlic. Cook for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
  • Pour in the soy sauce and seasoned rice vinegar, scraping up the flavorful bits from the bottom.
  • Stir in the honey, additional black pepper, and salt, then allow the sauce to simmer for 4-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Return the chicken to the pan and let it simmer in the sauce for about 1 minute until heated through.
  • Serve warm, garnished with sliced green onions.

Notes

This dish pairs well with rice or steamed vegetables. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
