  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Add fresh garlic for an aromatic boost.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust based on personal preference.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef along with the onions over medium heat until fully cooked. Make sure to drain any excess fat.
  • In a large baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly over the bottom.
  • Top the potatoes with the cooked beef and onion mixture, spreading it evenly.
  • Pour the cream of mushroom soup over the beef layer, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously on top.
  • Season the casserole with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour.
  • After an hour, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with a fresh side salad or warm, crusty bread. A dollop of sour cream and sprinkled fresh herbs can elevate the dish.
