Ingredients
  

For the Fritters

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk (or unsweetened almond milk or soy milk)
  • Avocado oil or ghee for frying
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)

For the Warm Chocolate Sauce

  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (or more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup half-and-half (or more if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosewater (optional) Can be omitted or substituted with almond extract.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and sea salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until you achieve a smooth batter.

Cooking

  • Heat avocado oil or ghee in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides.
  • Once cooked, remove the fritters and dust with powdered sugar.

Making the Chocolate Sauce

  • Melt together the semisweet chocolate, sugar, unsalted butter, and a pinch of salt in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Stir in the half-and-half, vanilla extract, and optionally, the rosewater until smooth.

Serving

  • Serve the fritters warm, accompanied by the chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

Store fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, freeze fritters. Reheat at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Chocolate sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
