Ingredients
  

Dairy Base

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy or double cream
  • 3 sticks cinnamon sticks
  • 1 pod vanilla bean, split with seeds removed
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg Plus more for garnish

Egg Mixture

  • 5 pieces eggs, separated
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

Alcohol (Optional)

  • 3/4 cup Bacardi Dark Rum or bourbon Feel free to swap out rum for bourbon, or use a non-alcoholic substitute.

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, cinnamon sticks, split vanilla bean and its seeds, and freshly grated nutmeg.
  • Heat the mixture until it reaches a boil, then remove it from the heat and let it steep for 10 minutes.
  • While the dairy mixture is steeping, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until thick ribbons form.
  • Gradually whisk in the warm milk mixture, stirring well to combine.
  • Stir in the Bacardi Dark Rum or bourbon to add a kick.
  • Chill the eggnog overnight in the refrigerator for the best flavor.

Serving

  • When ready to serve, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  • Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chilled eggnog.
  • Pour it into glasses, garnish with additional grated nutmeg, and enjoy!

Notes

To elevate your eggnog experience, serve it in elegant glassware rimmed with crushed candy canes or cocoa powder. Pair it with spiced cookies or gingerbread for a cozy ambiance. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and stir before serving as separation may occur.
