Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices slices of bread (white, whole grain, sourdough) Use your preferred type of bread.
  • 1 large large egg
  • ½ cup grated cheese (cheddar, gruyere, or your favorite) Choose any cheese you like.
  • 1 tsp finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary) Optional herbs for added flavor.
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 pinch cayenne (optional) For an extra kick of flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F or your air fryer to 370°F.
  • Lightly toast the bread using a toaster, or broil for 1-2 minutes per side until just golden.
  • In a bowl, lightly beat the egg. Add in the grated cheese, herbs, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  • Spread the egg and cheese mixture evenly over the toasted bread, reaching to the edges.

Cooking

  • For oven: Bake on a baking sheet for 10-12 minutes until golden and puffed.
  • For air fryer: Cook for 5-7 minutes until bubbly and set, using foil or parchment if necessary.

Notes

Serve hot with additional fresh herbs, avocado slices, or a drizzle of hot sauce. Pairs well with fresh fruit or a green salad. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat before serving.
