Ingredients
  

For the Mini Bloomin' Onions

  • 2 large onions Sweet onions like Vidalia work best
  • 1 cup buttermilk For soaking the onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Use gluten-free blend if necessary
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • Oil for frying Heat to 350°F (175°C)

For the Buttermilk Ranch Dip

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk For the dip
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For the dip
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Slice the tops off the onions and peel them. Make a small cut in the center of each onion to help them bloom.
  • Soak the onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderness.

Cooking

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Take the onions out of the buttermilk, shake off excess liquid, and dredge in the flour mixture.
  • Carefully place the onions in the hot oil and fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.

Ranch Dip Preparation

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, buttermilk, dill, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Serve the crispy mini bloomin' onions with the ranch dip.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes. For freezing, wrap tightly in plastic wrap.
