  • 12 pieces Lasagna noodles Use traditional or no-boil noodles.
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 pound Ground beef or Italian sausage Can substitute with mushrooms or spinach for vegetarian option.
  • 24 ounces Marinara sauce Store-bought or homemade.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese Shredded.
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese Grated.
  • 1 large Egg Used in ricotta mixture.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Pepper
  • to taste Fresh basil Optional for garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, sauté minced garlic and chopped onion until they’re translucent. Add your choice of ground beef or Italian sausage, cooking until browned. Drain any excess fat and stir in the marinara sauce.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with the egg, salt, and pepper until smooth.

Layering and Baking

  • In a baking dish, start with a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of noodles, then spread some ricotta mixture, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  • Repeat these layers, finishing with mozzarella and a sprinkle of Parmesan on top.
  • Cover your dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil for the last 15 minutes, letting the cheese become bubbly and golden.
  • Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve alongside garlic bread and a fresh salad for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
