  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped You can use yellow or white onion.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to mix cheeses for variety.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 bag tater tots Use frozen tater tots.
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onions until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef and onion mixture with the shredded cheddar cheese, cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Pour the beef mixture into a greased casserole dish and spread it out evenly.
  • Arrange the tater tots in a single layer on top of the beef mixture.
  • Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove from the oven, serve hot, and if desired, top with pickles, ketchup, and mustard.

Notes

This casserole can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, or frozen in airtight containers for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
