  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs For topping, adds a nice crunch.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set it aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux.
  • Gradually add milk while whisking constantly until the sauce thickens.
  • Stir in the cheese until it’s gooey and melted, then season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder for flavor.
  • Mix the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni until evenly coated.
  • Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with breadcrumbs.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbly on top.
  • Serve piping hot!

Notes

For the best flavor, consider using a mix of cheeses. Add a pinch of nutmeg to the cheese sauce for an extra special touch. Don’t rush the baking time for that perfect golden crust.
