Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Add more for a stronger flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the Apples

  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Use a mix of apple varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for best flavor
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting) Optional, for serving

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Set this mixture aside.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour, mixing just until combined.

Assembly

  • Pour half of the batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
  • Layer the apple mixture evenly over the batter.
  • Pour the remaining batter over the apples and smooth the top.

Baking

  • Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool slightly in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for a week.
